The unfashionable art of memorisation

Memorising Scripture is one of the most powerful means of transforming our minds…  And if you are concerned that you have a memory like a steel sieve, don’t be.  What matters is not how many words we memorise, but what happens to our minds when we immerse them in Scripture.

Hmm, thank you John Ortberg and ”The Life You’ve Always Wanted’!  I need to be reminded regularly of the need to actually learn this stuff.  It is so unfashionable.  And, to be sure, reading it and studying it does make my brain retain quite a lot of Scripture.  But there is almost certainly still something about the discipline of repetition of a verse word for word until it is really and truly mine.
