Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.
Galatians 6:4-5 (TM)
I’ve just done a quick comparison between this rendering of the text and some other English translations. Steve, if you read this, my only excuse for such laziness is that my Greek brain is on strike after too many study hours today.
Anyway, my sketchy research implies that this may be one of Eugene Peterson’s more colourful renderings. But I still quite like it; The Message is beautifully written, after all.
And so, I issue this challenge to all of us:
after the careful exploration of who we are and what God has given us to do,
let’s go for it and do the creative best we can with our lives.
Come on, let’s do this…you know it’ll be the best fun you’ll ever have!
